Eco Driving Techniques

Eco Driving Techniques with 4front Driving School.

We pride our techniques that we have learnt and want to share that will help you save fuel and reduce the impact that you and your vehicle are having on the environment.

To Drive More Smoothly,

To drive more smoothly you should firstly assess the road as far ahead of ahead as possible to avoid unnecessary late braking. Over acceleration is the other problem which increases the amount of fuel you use so a smooth and gentle acceleration uses less power and thus requires less fuel to be consumed.

Increasing Greater Distance

Try to maintain a greater distance between you and the vehicle in front so that you can adapt your speed when necessary by coming off of the accelerator and letting the car slow down naturaly without using the brakes.

Lowering Gears Down Hill

Lowering the gears to help control the speed down a hill uses engine braking braking. Engine braking shuts off fuel consumption, as opposed to just braking or putting the car in neutral. You'll also use less fuel when pulling away in a lower gear than pulling away at low speeds in high gear. All this adds up to a safer, more economical drive on brakes that will in turn last longer.

Shift Up Early To A Higher Gear

Driving at lower revs reduces fuel consumption so change up a gear at around 2,000 Revs Per Minute.

Take Advantage Of 'Stop Start'

Many newer cars automatically turn off when stationary in neutral due to the Stop Start system built in to it. If yours doesn’t have Stop Start then turn off your engine when you’ve stopped for a minute or so to save fuel. Avoid your car idling for long periods of time as this wastes fuel and is unnecessary damage to the environment.

Slow Down When Cruising

Your fuel costs will increase the faster you cruise along. A 6 speed gear box helps keep the Revs lower when cruising at the national speed limit but if you only have 5 then it is even more important to watch your speed and revs.

Windows Or Air Conditioning

It is more fuel efficient to open the window over using air-conditioning when driving. Air conditioning can increase your fuel consumption by as much as 5%.acording to the Energy Saving Trust.

Do Tyre pressures Matter When It comes To Fuel Consumption?

Under-inflated tyres will increase your fuel consumption and can also be dangerous so checking your tyres once a month and before long journeys is very important.

Roof Racks And Boxes Cause Drag

Having Roof Racks and Roof Boxes onto of your car these attached to your car will increase drag and as a result will increase your fuel costs. So if you are not using it we advise you remove it rather than have it permanently fixed to your vehicle.

Lightening The Load

Remove any excess items from your car before travelling to reduce the overall weight. Even by having the car filled at half a tank will reduce enough weight to see  difference. So you may think next time your at the pump to maybe only fill it half way.

Sat Nav In Your Driving Test

Sat Nav In Your Driving Test This part of the test is your independent driving part and it’ll last around 20 minutes - roughly half of the test. Following directions from a sat nav During the independent driving part of the test, most candidates will be asked to follow directions from a sat nav. The examiner will provide the sat nav (a TomTom Start 52) and set it up. You won’t need to set the route - the examiner will do this for you. So, it doesn’t matter what make or model of sat nav you practise with. You can’t follow directions from your own sat nav during the test - you have to use the one supplied by the examiner. You’ll be able to ask the examiner for confirmation of where you’re going if you’re not sure. It won’t matter if you go the wrong way unless you nake a fault while doing it. One in 5 driving tests won’t use a sat nav. You’ll need to follow traffic signs instead. If you are interested in learning to drive then please call Simon at 4front Driving School on 0790565722...

crossings

Types of pedestrian crossings When learning to drive a focus of a lesson can be based around pedestrian crossings. During your driving test, the examiner will be looking at how you deal with or react to pedestrian crossings. They want to make sure that you are planning ahead, showing awareness and responding to them them in the safest possible way.  Pedestrian crossings get put into two main categories – uncontrolled and traffic light controlled. For all crossings: -In queuing traffic, you should keep the crossing clear. On approach to a crossing there will be white zigzag lines on both sides of the road to highlight there is a pedestrian crossing ahead – these also prevent people parking at any time and is a place you make no attempt to overtake. You should take extra care where the view of either side of the crossing is blocked by queuing traffic or incorrectly parked vehicles. Pedestrians may be crossing between stationary vehicles. Allow pedestrians plenty of time to cross and ...

48 Hours Notice - Our Cancellation Policy

Like most reputable driving schools, we have a strict 48 hour cancellation policy that can be found via our website. https://www.4frontdrivingschool.co.uk/terms-and-conditions Lessons cancelled at short notice or missed  for  what  ever reason  (48hrs before lesson start time)  will require payment  in full. It  is  your  responsibility  to  check  times  and  dates of  lessons.  You will find that the driving test centre follows the same rule. We can't afford to be messed about for whatever reason. At the end of the day if you cancel why should we loose out? We could fill that slot with a paying student if you give us enough warning. Unfortunately some circumstances are unpredictable, but we have to be firm and present our policy like any other business. Please read our terms and conditions and ask any questions you may have. Please note: If we were to cancel last minute, you won't of course be ...
